I grab the last of my stuff—a toothbrush and a face towel that I let dry overnight. I look around what's become my room for the past two weeks, and a strange ache fills me. Packing up feels like it stripped the room of everything that made it personal. It's bittersweet, when good things come to an end.

My dream keeps bugging me. It came out of nowhere. Again. As if my mind's subconsciously trying to fix the current mess of my emotions. At times, especially when we were younger, things were rocky between us, but we always managed to figure it out. We don't hold grudges for long—it's not really our nature. But this isn't a grudge, it’s a thorn. Each day, it wedges itself deeper.

"All done?" Andy asks, dragging her luggage from behind her. I nod.

"Let me help you with that," Clay suggests just when I reach the bottom of the steps.

"Oh no, I'm—" But he pulls it out of my grasp and slides it over his shoulder without another word.

Andy looks back and forth between us, but she says nothing. She knows something's wrong, but she never pressed. She gave me one look that day, and she knew. She took my arm and dragged me away for a walk, while I did my best to look like he didn't just leave tire tracks all over my heart. It didn't fool her. I couldn’t if I tried. She knows me too well.

I'm trying to keep up with him, but he's not making it easy with his long stride. Not fair. "It was light," I argue.

He slows down just slightly, and looks back. "You were struggling with both." He nods towards the blue tote bag I'm also carrying on my other arm. I bought souvenirs and dried fruits and filled the bag with them. I didn't think it would end up being so heavy.

Tony bites an apple while he waits for us, sitting on the sofa. He stops mid-chew when he sees Clay with my bag. "Maybe I should carry that," he suggests. He's been trying to act as mediator between us two. So far it was working... until now.

"Hello?" I wave my hands around. "It's my bag."

Clay ignores me and gives him a look that could cut stone. His hand tightens around the strap. "I can carry a fucking bag." He walks off.

Tony whistles lightly. "Okay. He's mad."
